According to the market study conducted by Newzoo*, the revenue from electronic sports in 2019 will surpass the 1 billion dollar mark.
The overall market in the next three years, according to Newzoo, is expected to reach between 1.8 and 3.2 billion dollars.
This growth is supported by the audience of people who, by 2022, will follow electronic sports live or via streaming: 645 million, with an annual growth rate of 14%.
Western Europe will no longer be the second most competitive video game market in the world. China, with an estimated revenue of 210.3 million dollars, will constitute the second-largest segment in terms of revenue, behind North America, which will continue to lead with over 409 million dollars. Western Europe will stand at 209.2 million dollars.
Above all, sponsors will be the driving force behind the growth compared to the previous year: investments will account for 39% of total revenues, amounting to 456.7 million dollars, an increase of 34.3% compared to 2018. However, television rights will also be significant, with expected growth of +41.8%, for a total audience that will exceed 453 million users this year.
In 2019, most of the fans will reside in the Asia-Pacific region (57%), compared to only 16% in Europe and 12% in North America. However, the latter region will record the highest revenue per viewer: $17.13 for each of the 23.9 million North American fans.
