On January 5, Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and President of Regions of France, signed France’s first Future Contract worth 5.1 billion euros with Prime Minister Jean Castex.

Yesterday, Thursday, April 8, the Regional President and the Regional Prefect, Christophe Mirmand, convened the Future Contract Programming Committee to mobilize 2 billion euros of works that can be launched this year in the territory’s six departments.

An unprecedented commitment for the revival of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region

In order to support the development of university sites and to address the economic, social, and psychological challenges faced by students by improving their living and study conditions, the Regional President and the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Frédérique VIDAL, decided to allocate 193 million euros to them under the 2021-2027 CPER program, supplemented by over 172 million euros obtained through the State’s energy renovation call for projects under the Recovery Plan.

To enhance the student housing supply and contribute to the objectives of the 60,000 Plan, six projects will receive funding from the State and the Region under the Future Contract for a total of 20 million euros, which will be complemented by additional contributions (CROUS, local authorities) to bring these projects to fruition. The construction of 1,100 new housing units will thus be initiated by 2022: 600 units in Marseille, 396 in Nice, 80 in Avignon, and 53 in Toulon.

In addition to the International School City, Marseille will also host an international university city of excellence for students. Nice will welcome 230 new housing units within the Saint-Jean d’Angely Health Campus.

As Frédérique Vidal highlights, “the combined effects of the France Recovery Plan funding, particularly in the context of the energy renovation of higher education buildings and CROUS, and the Future Contract, will contribute to providing better housing, living, and training conditions for our students, catering to their success and social and professional integration. The strongly expressed commitment of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region to contributing to this dynamic is commendable as it partakes in the transformation of the living and working environments awaited by students.”

“The priority today is to provide concrete and swift solutions for the 170,000 students in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Therefore, the student life and housing construction projects have been prioritized and will be voted on during the Plenary Assembly on April 23. From Avignon to Toulon, all students will benefit from the best housing conditions near their campuses as well as university restaurants and libraries. Our young people are the vital force of our territory, and we are doing everything we can to support them every day,” stated Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and President of Regions of France.
