The short film festival is taking place from October 18 to 23 in Nice. Through 180 films and various themes, you can discover new productions in the city.
The association Hรฉliotrope presents “A Festival is Too Short,” the 11th edition of the Nice short film festival. It showcases films of all genres and lengths by young European directors. This year, 180 films are presented, 90 of which are in competition.
Competition
The European competition includes 34 short films from 14 countries. A grand prize, a special jury prize, a student prize, an audience prize, and acting awards for both male and female performances will be awarded in this category. The “Courts d’ici” competition features 18 films made in the region. A PACA region prize and a “Courts d’ici” prize will reward the best among them. There are 22 short films competing for the Experience competition. The winner will receive the Experience prize. The Animation competition will present 16 short films. The winner will receive the prize for Best Francophone Animation Short Film.
Programming
But competition isn’t the only focus of the festival. “Carte blanche” events give European countries the opportunity to showcase creations. Ireland will be present with the Irish Short Film Focus, Poland with the Krakow Film Festival, and Croatia with a focus curated by the Aye Aye Film Festival of Nancy.
A program will highlight European animation talents, music videos (scopitone), and sports documentaries (the beauty of gesture). A special session will present the only feature film of this edition.
The festival is very affordable, with tickets ranging from free to 5 euros, and a festival pass granting unlimited access for 6 days at 20 euros. School sessions are offered for preschool, elementary, middle, and high schools. The programming is adapted to each level and the fee is reduced.
Professional Segment
300 professionals are expected to attend the Nice Short Meeting. This is a day reserved for professionals on October 22, aimed at discussing film projects or engaging in round-table debates. Scriptwriting contests are also organized. The winner will receive support in producing and directing their film.
