12th Edition of L’Euro Pétanque: A High-Level Competition

Latest News

A major competition in France and internationally, the Euro Pétanque is one of the key events for pétanque specialists. Among the five tournaments organized in France, it is considered by purists as the most challenging. And it’s in Nice that these champions will compete for the 12th consecutive year, mixing with the weekend pétanque players.

europetanque_nardelli.jpg Henri Lacroix, seven-time world champion and four-time winner of the tournament with Philippe Quintais and Philippe Suchaud, is happy to return to the Euro Pétanque: “I have been licensed at the Nice club for years and being an ambassador for this event is a great honor.”

For this edition, the French triplet nicknamed “the dream team” will be the headliner, coming to defend their title. A pride shared by the president of the Euro Pétanque General Council 06, Robert Nardelli: “Last year, the former president resigned, and I decided to get involved as an organizer. When I hear these champions say that this is the equivalent of a Roland Garros in tennis, it says it all. All players are fully committed, and that’s what makes the quality of the field. Players from around the world will participate in this tournament, coming from Switzerland, Madagascar, Italy, and Spain.”

870 teams are expected, meaning 2,610 players of all generations. Proof, if any were needed, of the popular success of this event. Last year, 45,000 spectators gathered around the pétanque courts over the 3 days of competition.

This year, the competition will take place from July 20 to 22, 2013. With five organized tournaments on the program. The main tournament composed of 512 triplets, the Malatesta tournament (256 triplets in consolation), the women’s tournament (62 triplets), the young players’ tournament (40 triplets, players aged 8 to 13), and the shooting competition “Trophée Stellardo” (8 players).
