15th La Gaude Jazz Festival: Jazz under the Bigaradiers

From Monday, November 14 to Monday, November 21, 2011: 11 venues, 11 orchestras, 11 concerts, 33 musicians. Neither the Nice Festival, nor Juan, nor Monaco, this event, now nationally renowned, has established itself over the years as a highlight of regional Jazz. It allows the best musicians from the Cรดte dโ€™Azur to perform alongside top national and international talents.

Eight days of celebration around convivial and quality jazz. The sponsor of these 15th Encounters is Jean-Luc Abitbol, director of MJC Picaud in Cannes.

– Monday, November 14, and Tuesday, November 15, at La Coupole hall and in schools
– Tuesday, November 15, at Caprices de Caroline, at 8 PM. “Jazz & dinner” by reservation: Jazz “standards and gypsy” with Louis Bariohay’s quartet
– Wednesday, November 16, at So What, at 9 PM. Free entry “Jazz azurรฉen” and Nice tapas with Jรฉrรดme Vinson trio and Arnoise Project
– Thursday, November 17, at La Sรฉguigniรจre, at 8 PM, Free entry Jazz Aperitif with singer Yaรซl Angel’s quartet “Tribute to Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane”
– Friday, November 18, at La Coupole hall at 9 PM. Flat rate 15โ‚ฌ So What Company, then Gรฉraldine Laurent “Jazz Magazine’s shock of the year 2010”
– Saturday, November 19, at La Coupole hall. Flat rate 15โ‚ฌ Tribute to Franรงois Chassagnite Yades Quartet, then Pierre Bertrand with Minino Garay
– Sunday, November 20, at Sainte-Victoire Church, at 11 AM. Free entry Meeting between Classical Music and Jazz: Benjamin and Hans Barfod
– Monday, November 21, at La Coupole Hall, at 9 PM. Usual cinema rate Jazz and cinema evening with Jean-Paul Alimi trio followed by the screening of the event film about pianist Petrucciani, in partnership with the Encounters of Vence.

– Monday, November 14, and Tuesday, November 15, at La Coupole hall and La Gaude schools, jazz initiation for 700 students by the Lautrelune Companyโ€™s jazz and clown band.
– Wednesday, November 16, at So What, presentation of La Gaudeโ€™s photo novel.
– Saturday, November 19 morning, in the gardens and exhibition hall of La Coupole, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM โ€“ free musical aperitif with the La Gaude Harmony. Orange and bitter orange wine offered by the municipality, associations, and Gaudean families.

Awarding of the school drawing contest prizes, theme: “The Clownsโ€™ Band.” Awarding of the Jazz photo contest prizes. Awarding of the Cรดte dโ€™Azur Jazz Trophies.

Among other stars this year:

Young saxophonist Gรฉraldine Laurent “Jazz Magazine’s shock of the year 2010”, her second album “Around Gigi” received the French Record Award from the Jazz Academy, nominated for the 2011 Jazz Awards โ€“ Artist of the Year category.

Pierre Bertrand, renowned film music composer, Jazz Award, and Django d’or, with percussionist Minino Garay, presents his latest album “Caja negra”, a fusion of Jazz and flamenco.

Benjamin Barfod, a 21-year-old Danish musician, virtuoso of the Hang, an instrument with a unique crystalline sound.

Louis Bariohay is the undisputed leader of the fusion between Jazz standards and gypsy on the Cรดte dโ€™Azur.

Jรฉrรดme Vinson trio, and Arnoise project finalists of Jazz in Nice and Juan, will represent young Azurean Jazz.

Yaรซl Angel quartet, one of the few singers acclaimed by Jazz Hot magazine.

Yades quartet, winner of the 2010 Cรดte dโ€™Azur Jazz Trophies.

The So What Company, continuing its 2011 cycle around Matisse.

Yann Fisher and the Lautrelune Company will initiate Gaudean students to Jazz, and the pianist Jean-Paul Alimi trio, Director of Studies at the National Conservatory of Regional Radiation in Nice, will perform as an opening for the event film about pianist Petrucciani.
