1st Departmental Brass Day at the Nice Conservatory

Latest News

It is a true and exceptional gathering of Brass Instruments from all over the Alpes-Maritimes department: trumpets, French horns, trombones, and tubas being showcased by the Nice Conservatory on Saturday, March 14th from 9 AM to 5 PM.

The day’s schedule includes:
– 9 AM to 5 PM – Exhibition and instrument try-out
– 10:45 AM – A conference on the world of “Brass Bands” by Roy Terry, journalist at Brass Band World magazine (UK) (Auditorium)
– 11:45 AM – Brass septet performance (Auditorium)
– 1:45 PM – Concert by the large “Gabrieli” Brass Ensemble (Open-air Theatre)
– 3 PM – “The Ship of Fools” show by the “Mediterranean Brass Band” (Auditorium)

The Brass Band, literally “brass orchestra”, is a very particular ensemble that has developed in recent years in France. This type of ensemble still resonates significantly in many Anglo-Saxon countries, including England, which alone boasts 8,000 Brass Bands!
This ensemble, driven by percussion, brings together all brass instruments, from the highest-pitched cornet to the lowest-pitched tuba, including the flugelhorn, alto saxhorns, baritones, euphoniums, and trombones.

The Mediterranean Brass Band
In the year 2000, Gรฉrard Hostein, a professor and co-Director at the Antibes Conservatory, founded the Mediterranean Brass Band with his friend Philippe Bleuez, a trumpet professor at the CRR of Nice.
With the success of his previous series “Les Cuivres en Piste”, the Mediterranean Brass Band presents its new show “The Ship of Fools”.
An original and quirky project that mixes music and comedy, filled with surprises and twists… guaranteed laughter. A mysterious mute clown, with polyphonic accents, gradually infuses an air of madness into the orchestra. The Brass catch colds, the musicians blow against the wind, and the music sheets shatter… into laughter.
