For the first time, the Grand Prix Lyonnaise des Eaux will stop in Nice during the Nice Côte d’Azur Triathlon on Sunday, April 24, 2011.
It is organized by the French Triathlon Federation with the support of the Côte d’Azur League and the Nice Triathlon Club.

After organizing the Nice long-distance Triathlon for 10 years (1994 – 2004), the Federation returns to Nice with this event counting towards the French Championship for first division clubs. It is also the first stage of the 2011 federal circuit, which includes four other stages: Dunkirk, Paris, Tours, and La Baule.

Unlike the Iron Man (long-distance triathlon), this event is a short-distance triathlon in the half-olympic format, known as SPRINT:
– 750m swimming,
– 20 km cycling,
– 5 km running.

Four races are organized:
– 2 Elite races (women’s and men’s),
– 1 “Grand Public Open” race,
– 1 children’s race.

Approximately 500 participants are expected, including 16 men’s first division clubs and 12 women’s first division clubs.

The best French triathletes competing for the London Olympics will participate, along with the best in the world: Javier GOMEZ (2010 world champion), Alistair BROWNLEE (2009 world champion), Emma MOFFAT (2010 world champion), and Andrea HEWITT (ranked #6 in the world).

Some of Yves CORDIER’s trainees and he himself will participate in the OPEN race, which is expecting 300 competitors. A strong team of young athletes will try to excel in the “Avenir” events, scheduled in the form of duathlons.

This triathlon also aims to be supportive, as about a hundred families supported by the association for the disadvantaged (Secours populaire) are invited to attend the event.

Nice has maintained a long-standing tradition of Triathlon, becoming the capital of the sport in France.

There are three clubs in Nice: the Nice Triathlon Club, the ONN (with Johanna DAUMAS, French champion and 3rd in the long-distance triathlon world championship), and the Cavigal Nice Triathlon.
