1st Symposium on Animals in the City for the Mayors and Elected Officials of France

Like the Rural Code and European law, the Civil Code today recognizes that animals are living beings endowed with sensitivity.

The place of animals in the city has become a real societal issue on which the city of Nice has sought to position itself as a pioneering territory.

To this end, Christian Estrosi created the “Animal in the City” mission in 2015 to implement a specific policy that respects both animals and citizens.

To go even further in this field, the city of Nice wanted to organize the first national symposium on animals in the city, led by Hรฉlรจne Salicetti-Adroguer, Municipal Councilor delegated to animal welfare, to allow participating cities to exchange on local experiences and compare solutions to improve the coexistence between citizens, animals, and their owners, with a constant concern to promote harmonious living together.

Sponsored by the Nice-based visual artist Stรฉphane Bolongaro, this symposium was exclusively reserved for French cities that have developed an “Animal in the City” mission and a few animal protection associations.
