2012 Legislative Elections: Attack, Defense, and Counterattack… on the Left

Latest News

Are we already in the electoral campaign, and furthermore, between candidates of the same future coalition? That’s what one might think when reading the two statements, one from the Left Front (of which we have reproduced some excerpts) and the other from the PS. If this reminds you of something, one can anticipate a rather hot spring, beyond meteorological control?

yellow_card.jpg Candidates in the first district of Alpes-Maritimes, we wish to thank our partners from the Left Front and the communist activists who have entrusted us with the responsibility of leading the legislative campaign in this district.

A historic district, marked by the strong presence of communist elected officials, today Jacques Victor, yesterday Charles Caressa, the day before Virgile Barel.

A district whose outgoing deputy—and whom we hope will be outgoing soon—is not the last to support and implement austerity policies against our people.

This is the meaning of our commitment. With determination, we want to help defeat Sarkozy and his policy in 2012. Determination also to contribute to making a successful left that strives and has the ambition and the means to meet the expectations of our people.

Defeating Sarkozy and succeeding on the left is an ambition that we carry with the Left Front, with our common candidate in the presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

Finally, to succeed in giving priority to the general interest, power must be returned to the people. This is the meaning of our proposals for a Sixth Republic, diametrically opposed to the quasi-feudal conception underlying today’s establishment of the metropolis.

With the Left Front, we carry the ambition to give meaning to politics. We want to allow everyone to give their opinion, to contribute to deciding the choices to be made, for a just and united society.

Delphine Girard (supplement), unionist.

The real choice must be offered in the second round

The PS 06 federation acknowledges its counterpart PCF 06’s position concerning the legislative elections on June 10 and 17, 2012.

We remind that, concerning the legislative elections, it is not our responsibility to discuss with local partners, the entirety of the process being managed by our national leadership.

To our knowledge, the decision of our leadership is not unilateral. It responds to the major concern of our respective national headquarters to offer a real choice to the voters of Alpes-Maritimes.

In a department where the lack of unity led to the elimination in the 1st round of left-wing candidates, the real choice is not to allow our voters to scatter among several candidates in the 1st round. It is to unite so that in the 2nd round, they have the opportunity to defeat the right rather than arbitrate duels between a UMP and an FN.

Spokesperson for the Socialist Party of Alpes-Maritimes
