At the midway point of the London Olympics, the President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Éric Ciotti, paid tribute on Friday to the medal-winning athletes from the French Riviera at the Department House in Nice.
Camille Muffat, Yannick Agnel, Émilie Fer, and Clément Lefert all have two things in common: they each won at least one gold medal at the London Olympics, and their faces now cover the facade of the Department House in Nice.
On Friday, the President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Éric Ciotti, stated in a press conference that he hoped “the entire population of the Alpes-Maritimes can share in this pride.”
Full of praise for the Olympic champions, the deputy made a point not to overlook the contributions of two other French sports representatives: “We can also add Margaux Farrell and Alain Bernard, who were also medalists in the relays.”
Shortened Conference for Papazian
Although the athletes from Antibes were not selected to participate in the finals of the men’s 4 x 100-meter relay and women’s 4 x 200-meter relay, they significantly contributed to the performances achieved in the finals, thanks to satisfactory times in the heats.
A small reception was hurried because Richard Papazian, the councilor for Sports at the Nice city hall, is currently in mourning. But Éric Ciotti promised: “We will organize the awards ceremony officially.” This time, Christian Estrosi, the Mayor of Nice, should lead the event.
