arton9251.jpg“First of all, I want to congratulate all the activists and friends of the Left Front who enabled the dynamism and enthusiasm of an intense and high-level electoral campaign.

This campaign has allowed thousands of people in our department to embrace the content of our program “humans first” and disseminate it around them.

I also want to acknowledge all the voters who voted for Jean-Luc Mélenchon. In the Alpes-Maritimes, 49,443 people did so, which represents an increase of 39,000 votes compared to the 2007 presidential election.

Unfortunately, as was feared, the score for the National Front is far too high for us to fully rejoice in our progress. The National Front is recovering the votes lost by the UMP.
However, the Left Front is proud of the work we have done to combat the xenophobic, racist ideas of the FN and to expose the social imposture that is Marine Le Pen’s program. We will continue this work and urge other “left” parties to do so with us.

On May 6, the French will have to choose between Sarkozy and Hollande. I am therefore very clearly calling to defeat Sarkozy by voting for the Socialist candidate François Hollande. Everything must be done to prevent the re-election of the UMP candidate; none of us can imagine the state our country would be in after another five years of Sarkozy! It’s unthinkable!!

The Communist Party and the Left Front will continue to rally around its proposals on May 1 alongside trade unions, on May 6 to defeat Sarkozy, and on June 10 and 17 for the legislative elections.

Let’s continue on the path of gathering, citizen assemblies, fronts of struggle, and the collective construction of proposals and actions to make change happen!” Cécile Dumas, departmental secretary of the PCF.
