The CDOS (Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee) of the Alpes-Maritimes and its President, Jean-Paul Serra, presented their best wishes yesterday in the late afternoon for this new year, which promises to be very sporty for the department.
“I wish you all a Happy New Year 2013.” The wishes were already extended to the 200 guests in the Estérel Room at the CADAM, made available by the General Council. He takes the opportunity to recall the fabulous results of the Azurian athletes. The list is exhaustive. Jean-Paul Serra naturally mentions the names of Yannick Agnel, Camille Muffat, Alain Bernard, or Emilie Fer, who shone during the last Olympic Games in London.
He also reflects on the upcoming deadlines waiting for the department. The events that will mark the department’s sports year. A stage town for the Tour de France, the Paris-Nice, and especially the Jeux de la Francophonie in September. Jean-Paul Serra considers that 2013 will be “a year of challenge.” He also wants to salute the work of the employees and the 1,200 volunteers who “do and give a lot of their time.”
The President of the CDOS hands the microphone to the General Councilor delegated to sport, Éric Pauget. He goes back over the commitment of the General Council: “Éric Ciotti understood the importance of having a strong departmental policy.” The Alpes-Maritimes have always focused on sports with this crossroads between the mountains and the coast. The budget allocated to sports today is 10 million euros, making it one of the most ambitious departments in the country.
The general councilor recalls the importance of local authorities. Just like Annick Piquet, from the DDCS (Departmental Directorate of Social Cohesion), for whom “The State will always be a support for local authorities.” Four objectives: job creation, mobilization around sports events, the development of physical practice for all (prevention of diseases, aging risks,…) and finally, most importantly, reducing inequalities in access to sports: “Sports must be a vector of social cohesion, solidarity, and well-being in this period of crisis.”
Two people were honored yesterday. Maître Anglade and Charline Gartner received the CDOS medal from Jean-Paul Serra. A final word to announce his candidacy for his own re-election at elections scheduled for March 7.
