Faithful to their combat attitude even if the results are not often present, the representatives of the staunch left want to take advantage of the senatorial elections on September 28 to convey their message: “ensuring democracy and public services”.
The list led by Gรฉrad Piel, native of Antibes and regional councilor, will seek to attract all those among the 2031 grand electors that make up the electoral body who will have to elect the 5 senators who will represent the Alpes-Maritimes at the Palais du Luxembourg.
The path is narrow but “we are not here to just make an appearance but to make a score,” says Gรฉrard Piel presenting his running mates on the forecourt of the Provence Train Station hall, a place chosen as a symbol of the return to public service after management delegation. The number one enemy of this list is the territorial reform project, described as an anti-democratic project that Nicolas Sarkozy had already proposed and Franรงois Hollande has also taken up: “its implementation would dismantle the territorial, administrative, democratic, and economic organization,” asserts the head of the Front de Gauche list who claims to be representative of grassroots democracy.
Hence the appeal to grand electors who do not want to “participate in the internal battles of the right which is tearing apart the Alpes-Maritimes as well as nationally” and/or who want to “punish the ruling PS for reneging on its commitments and the values of the left” to choose candidates who “do not abandon the ideals of democracy, progress, and social justice”.
The program presents 9 points that outline these great principles. The intentions are certainly commendable but, to be honest, it feels a bit like a shopping list.
However, in the secrecy of the voting booths, anything can happen…
