The banns have not yet been published, but barring any last-minute pre-marital crisis, the wedding will indeed take place: the ecologists and the communists will be together in the next regional elections in Paca.
No official communication, but the speeches by Sophie Camard (designated list leader for the Greens) and Jean-Marc Coppola (spokesperson for the FdG) yesterday afternoon at the Fête du Château had the scent of a joint candidacy.
The same analysis of the current political context (denouncing the social-democratic policy of the Valls government as well as the liberal policy of European institutions), the same vision for future policies (fighting against global warming, social inequalities, a call for anti-capitalist economic policy), the same objective (to oppose the anticipated duel between the far-right of Christian Estrosi and the extreme right of Marion Marechal-Le Pen), and ultimately, the same ambition: to beat the socialists in the first round to have a chance in the second.
And, in the event of a defeat, to represent the left, the true left and not the faded version of the Hollande-Valls tandem, as an opposition force in the PACA Regional Council.
One understands the difficulties and also the personal ambitions, but after 17 years of a united left government and faced with the probability of a severe defeat, one would have imagined better.
The deficit of the current left is this: wasting time and energy in internal disputes instead of realizing that in a democracy, when you are defeated, you no longer have the means to implement your program.
In this case, talking about values, projects or programs… is nothing but a futile song!
So, one can well be right but it’s others who take the baton, and there’s no guarantee it’s to play your favorite tunes.
The “watermelon” list (red on the inside and green on the outside) has made its choice: will it have the consistency to fulfill this contract with the good people of the left?
