2017 Presidential Election: Electric Atmosphere and Anti-Estrosi Sentiment at François Fillon’s Rally

Latest News

How could anyone imagine that Christian Estrosi could be booed in his own city during a political rally?

Well, it happened last night at the Palais Nikaia (with well-filled stands, but with fewer than 5,000 people despite the general mobilization decreed by all the local leaders).

It turns out that a good portion of the Republicans’ supporters have not gotten over the critical support from the president of the Metropolis to their candidate, while, for instance, Eric Ciotti and others are always at the front line to attack the opponents.

Besides, if Christian Estrosi defends himself by proclaiming his cause: “We have six days left to win. François, if in this campaign I have not been one of those petty courtiers, I have maintained my freedom of speech.”

Yet these boos – once is okay (in Toulon), but twice starts to be too much and… the doubt arises that all this is not as spontaneous as it seems.

But how can we forget Christian Estrosi’s initiative on the eve of the Trocadero gathering, at the worst moment of François Fillon’s electoral campaign, when a hundred of his followers had signed a petition asking the candidate to withdraw and he himself announced a “respectful exit”?

The same supporters also blame him for meeting Emmanuel Macron, the En Marche! candidate for the presidential election, at the beginning of April in Marseille. A meeting defined as ‘republican courtesy’ by the President of the PACA Region, but this reasoning did not evidently convince everyone.

For example, Eric Ciotti promptly declared that he would never have received him.

Moreover, his fight against the FN does not please everyone, particularly those in his camp who are betting on the permeability between the two electorates by adopting themes common to their sensitivity (security, immigration).

So, the indicators point towards those who are likely pulling the strings, and if, when speaking, François Fillon asked the crowd to applaud the president of PACA, as well as the other officials present, it was the deputy of Alpes-Maritimes, Eric Ciotti, who received an ovation.
