2022 Presidential Election: Macron Supporters Advance Their Pawns

Latest News

On Monday, late in the afternoon, the various components of the presidential majority will formalize their agreement by establishing their “common house,” which will be named “Ensemble citoyens” (“Citizens Together”).

It will notably bring together La Rรฉpublique en marche, the MoDem, and Edouard Philippe’s new party, “Horizons,” as well as the center-right party Agir, the social democrats of Territories of Progress, and the movement “En commun!” led by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili.

Each component will retain its identity, and this grouping will be more of a cooperative. There will be no rigid structures, but rather flexibility so that the various personalities are not hierarchized.

An agreement has been reached around three fundamental accords.

– First, an obvious point: full support for Emmanuel Macron in the 2022 presidential election.
– Second: a common candidate in all constituencies for the subsequent legislative elections, with an entity responsible for harmonizing the choices of each party.
– Third: allowing the different parties that will make up “Ensemble citoyens!” to establish reinforced cooperations (as is expected between LREM and MoDem) or even mergers (as “Horizons” and “Agir” seem to be heading towards).

What will be the stance of local politicians regarding this “quasi” novelty? This question pertains particularly to Christian Estrosi and his movement La France Audacieuse, as well as to Hubert Falco and Renaud Muselier who, like the Mayor of Nice, have left Les Rรฉpublicains.

This Wednesday, during Edouard Philippe’s visit to Nice where he will hold a joint meeting with Christian Estrosi, some requests may likely find an answer.
