The result of the first round of the Les Républicains congress just came in this Thursday at 2:30 PM, and it will be the deputy from Alpes-Maritimes and the president of the Ile de France region who will face off to become the right-wing candidate for the presidential election.
The Les Républicains members made their choice this morning, and they chose to send Eric Ciotti (25.59%) and Valérie Pécresse (25%) to the second round of the LR congress. Michel Barnier (23.93%), Xavier Bertrand (22.26%), and Philippe Juvin (3.13%) have been eliminated.
Christian Jacob, the president of Les Républicains, was pleased with the member turnout: 80.89% of the 139,918 members voted.
The two finalists can now submit their statements of faith until 5 PM today. The second round will begin at 8 AM on Friday, December 3, and will end the next day at 2 PM. The result will be announced on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
Eliminated, Xavier Bertrand called for a vote for Valérie Pécresse in this second round.
I thank the @lesRepublicains members who trusted me.
For the second round, I will vote for @vpecresse and call for rallying behind her. #CongrèsLR
