The game is almost over. On September 13th in Lima, the IOC will award the 2024 Summer Games to Paris, and then the 2028 edition to Los Angeles.
One of the major players in the three-cushion billiards game played over several months by the IOC and the two rival bids. Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, broke the silence of the negotiations.
He did so with just a handful of small phrases that will leave no one in doubt about the outcome of the battle. Regarding the possibility of Los Angeles hosting the 2024 Games, Eric Garcetti admitted that “it was probably not going to happen.”
The Californians have obtained enough financial compensations to agree to be patient.
“According to the terms of the host city contract for 2028, the IOC will advance funds to the Los Angeles organizing committee in light of the longer planning period” than for the 2024 Olympics, and to increase youth participation and access to sports in the years leading up to the Games, specifies the communiqué from the Los Angeles bid committee.
Paris will therefore take the prize. Bingo.
