2034 Olympics: The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region bids for the Winter Olympic Games

The Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region announces “an intention to bid” for the Winter Olympics in 2034 or 2038, indicated its president Renaud Muselier on Thursday, during his press greetings.

The president of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region announced his desire to host the Winter Olympics in 2034 or 2038 “throughout the Southern Alps.”

In 2022, the Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing, and in 2026 in Milan. The alternation of continents implies that 2030 should be allocated to Japan or North America.

“And thus, the Winter Olympics could return to Europe in 2034 or 2038, with the Summer Olympics in 2024, it’s a coherence in the IOC’s calendar,” he stated.

“It’s an intention to bid. But when we say intention, it’s a subtle word, yet it is a very firm determination on my part,” Renaud Muselier clarified.

This intention to bid, “this opportunity,” as he called it, is facilitated by hosting sailing and football events for the 2024 Paris Olympics and by organizing the Rugby World Cup.

Renaud Muselier also highlighted the “advancement” made by the Region thanks to the Montagnes 2030 plan, on which he intends to double his commitment to reach 200 million euros.

For the record, Nice had already been a candidate for the 2018 edition, but its hopes ended at the national level, with Annecy being preferred.
