The 2012 edition of the Italian Cinema Days at Espace Magnan, from March 21 to 31, 2012, highlights the emerging production of Italian cinema. At its core are films that question and analyze the developments of the city, its internal movements, both visible and more “underground.”
2012. Italy is on the move, society is bubbling, politics is changing…
On the program, the 2nd Competition session with the Garibaldi Prize and the Audience Award, featuring distinguished guests (directors, actors, etc.), fictions, social or lighter comedies, and documentaries that, as always, reflect societal contradictions and concerns.
A focus on heritage centered on the great Gian Maria Volontรฉ, with one of his major films, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion by Elio Petri, supported by a presentation by Daniel Rocchia, a film critic; but also a documentary rich with many unpublished testimonies about the man he was (Investigation of a Citizen Named Volontรฉ by Andrea Bettinetti); and an exhibition of photos from his films.
There is also a spotlight on Piedmontese film production, with an evening dedicated to the Piemonte Movie Association, featuring the screening of three of its documentary films.
In fact, it has been a remarkable cultural showcase for the cities of Moncalieri and Turin for ten years, with particular attention to Piedmontese cinema, through the enhancement of production and distribution.
The selection of Ermanno Olmi’s latest film, Rupi del Vino, advocating for the classification of local vineyards as a UNESCO World Heritage site, will also allow Espace Magnan, in partnership with the Italian Chamber of Commerce, to highlight this strong component of Italian terroir: wine production.
With the presence of Piedmontese winegrowers and a convivial tasting of regional wines.
