Yesterday, Prefect Bernard Gonzalez held a press briefing to provide the latest information on Covid-19 in the department. 30 cases have been recorded, including 1 concerning case.
In front of journalists, the prefect discussed the state of coronavirus development in the Alpes-Maritimes.
In total, 30 cases have been recorded so far, with only 1 considered concerning. Still in intensive care, the latter is of Italian origin and is quite elderly, as is the case with most of the infected. They are on average in their fifties or sixties. A report intended to reassure.
“The medical staff is calm, and some people have already been discharged. Notably, the 3-year-old granddaughter mentioned a few days ago. In the coming hours, other patients should follow the same path.” – said the representative of the State reassuringly.
Measures maintained and strengthened
After reiterating the mayor’s comments earlier in the day regarding the municipal elections, the prefect broadened the issue. “The hospitals have rooms for patients. Everything has been set up to treat patients. However, there is a new development: the government has decided to allow a certain number of private laboratories to carry out tests on medical prescription. Thus, tests will now be possible outside the public hospital. Additionally, we have received authorization from the general directorate of health to switch to outpatient care. Once detected, one can be treated at home, but this will only be valid for people not considered fragile” explained the prefect.
Constant contacts with Italy and Monaco
The prefect and his teams are in constant communication with Monegasque and Italian leaders. During the press conference, his phone rang; it was the Monegasque State Minister. A testament to the various exchanges and cooperation between the different neighboring states. “The Italian government has implemented control measures at the border; the goal is to ensure exchanges are strictly professional and not for tourism or leisure. I am aware of the practices of the Azuréens; I understand it may be pleasant to spend a weekend in Italy, but now we are in a situation where travel must be restricted.”
The situation is constantly evolving. In France, the latest report indicates 2,281 cases with 48 deaths.
