Latest News

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Department invites the public, passionate about history, to discover the rich heritage of the Alpes-Maritimes through a special program.

Thus, the Departmental Council will freely open the doors to several emblematic sites: the Palace of the Kings of Sardinia, the Lympia Space, the prehistoric Lazaret Cave, the Museum of Asian Arts in Nice, the Fort of La Drète in Èze, the Freinet School in Vence, and the Museum of Wonders in Tende.

This year, the range of visits has been expanded to include two symbolic buildings in the history of our region: the Darse of Villefranche-sur-Mer, offering a discovery of the history of this exceptional site, a military port of the House of Savoy in the 18th century, which the Department plans to restore and enhance;

As a preview, last Saturday, the Department proposed discovering the Camp des Fourches in Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage, learning about its history and the restoration program. A place of remembrance for the battles of the Alps, it housed Alpine troops ensuring the security of the area. The Department is completing the work to highlight this exceptional military heritage, a testament to the unique history of the border in the Alpes-Maritimes.
