In partnership with 18 other university hospitals (CHU), the CHU of Nice is launching a science fiction short story competition for children. This competition is open to all. The Nice winner of the Flaubert Prize 2007 will be published in an illustrated collection, sold for the benefit of hospitalized children. The awards ceremony will take place in March 2008.

Excerpts from the rules:

The short story, in French, must not exceed 4 pages, each consisting of 1,500 characters (including spaces). To maintain the anonymity of the author, it will be accompanied by a separate sheet bearing the name, first name, date of birth, address, and telephone number of the author in BLOCK CAPITALS. Only one story per candidate will be accepted. The “Flaubert Prize” short story competition is open to all. Participation is free.

RULES OF THE CONTEST “FLAUBERT PRIZE 2007”

  • Article 1: The “Flaubert Prize 2007” short story competition is open to all, except jury members. Participation is free.
  • Article 2: Only one story per candidate will be accepted. It must not exceed 4 (four) pages, each consisting of 1500 (one thousand five hundred) characters including spaces. Any short story with too many characters will not be reviewed.
    Stories can be sent by post to THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS: CHU DE NICE – FLAUBERT PRIZE – 4 AVENUE REINE VICTORIA BP 1179 06 003 NICE CEDEX 1 or by email to: concoursdecriture@chu-nice.fr.

NO STORY WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE FOR PARTICIPATION.

  • Article 3: Stories must be written in French. The jury will pay close attention to form: spelling, syntax, style. THE THEME MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED.
  • Article 4: To maintain the anonymity of the author, the work will be accompanied by a separate sheet bearing the name, first name, date of birth, address, and telephone number of the author in BLOCK CAPITALS.

  • Article 5: The jury, composed of personalities from the hospital, publishing, and cultural sectors, will independently select the winners of the Prize from the works submitted to it. It reserves the right not to award a Prize. The decisions of the jury will be final.

  • Article 6: Manuscripts will not be returned to the authors. By participating, authors guarantee the jury against any possible claims by third parties regarding the originality of the presented works.

  • Article 7: Winners and those selected must agree to have their story published in a collection that will be edited and sold for the benefit of a cause aimed at hospitalized children (to be defined).

  • Article 8: Winners will be notified by the organizers. Their presence or that of their representatives is desirable at the official Awards ceremony. Results will also be available on the CHU websites.

  • Article 9: Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of the present rules.
