On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Mercantour National Park wanted to honor its magnificent landscapes, fascinating species, unique skills, its residents, and its partners throughout the weekend, through a series of events that will be offered throughout the year: exhibitions, conferences, films, books, nature activities, guided hikes…
Everything started on Friday, when Charles-Anges Ginesy welcomed Prince Albert of Monaco and the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzales.
In his speech, he aimed to connect the past and the future: “Beyond the territory, its landscapes, its panoramas, its exceptional fauna and flora, we wanted to symbolize these 40 years by focusing on the people who live there and their connection with their territory. In 2019, we are here together with Prince Albert II of Monaco to carry this legacy, aware of the challenges we must face for future generations. We are celebrating an anniversary but also, above all, a hope, a vision, for the future of the park […]”
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco expressed similar sentiments: “[…] As many of you know, this Mercantour Park is particularly dear to the neighbor that I am, who appreciates its landscapes, its beauty, its natural richness, just a few kilometers from such a densely urbanized area. […] But it is above all dear to the nature defender, who knows that this Natural Park is an essential link in its protection, its enhancement, its conservation. That is why this anniversary touches me especially.”
An unprecedented program, a source of events throughout 2019
A rich and varied program awaits the general public. Among these events: Explor’nature in Guillaumes from July 5 to 7, Mountain Image Festival in Saint-Martin-Vésubie from July 19 to 21, Park Open House weekend on August 3 and 4, an exhibition on the Grand Traverse of Mercantour, and a photo and audio exhibition of the “Words and Faces of Mercantour” project in all the valleys during the summer, both indoors and outdoors, then the Cultural Space Lympia in Nice from November 8 until January 2020.
These multiple events will form the backbone of the year and will be an opportunity to invite the people from Maralpin, along with other stakeholders, to gather and unite around the theme “Mercantour National Park”.
