Friday, September 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Departmental Laboratory of Prehistory of Lazaret, 33 bis Franck Pilatte Boulevard in Nice
Presentation of the book “The First Prehistoric Settlements of the Cรดte d’Azur and Liguria: A Million Years on the Shores of the Mediterranean.” This book, written by Henry and Marie-Antoinette de Lumley, with the collaboration of various researchers and technicians, traces centuries of life of our distant ancestors.
Occupied by prehistoric humans from 220,000 to 130,000 years ago, the Lazaret Cave has been gradually revealing its mysteries for the past 50 years. Twenty-four human bones have already been discovered at this reference site for the reconstruction of paleoenvironments and the daily life of the last European Homo erectus.
As a testament to the behaviors and lifestyles of the time, the cave was classified as a historical monument in 1963.
On the occasion of this anniversary, thematic workshops will be organized for students from the Terra Amata primary school, a heritage class from Port Lympia College, and the Palmiers High School.
All the institutions in the Alpes-Maritimes will soon be informed that throughout this school year, ADEVREPAM (*) will host primary and secondary groups.
