5th International Children’s Rights Festival in Cannes

Latest News

On Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19, 2011, the 5th International Children’s Rights Festival will be held in Cannes, organized by the Alpine Maritime Educational Action Association, presided over by Marie-Agnès Bina, a magistrate who has been dedicated for 30 years to children in difficulty, and the defense and promotion of children’s rights.

droits_enfants.jpg Deeply involved in the department of the Alps Maritime, she has been a driving force behind numerous initiatives in favor of disadvantaged children for several decades. It is in the name of the Defense and Promotion of Children’s Rights that she has organized the International Children’s Rights Festival for five years.

This event has now become an essential gathering for associations and institutions working for children. For several years, the City of Cannes has been part of the national network “Child-Friendly City” with UNICEF and works closely with the actions carried out by the A.A.E.

In this spirit, the City and the AAE initiated the creation of the monument dedicated to children’s rights in the Roseraie in 2002.
An event dedicated to it takes place every year in November. It is therefore only natural that the municipality supports the International Children’s Rights Festival.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE FESTIVAL (FIDE)

The aim is to work toward the implementation of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child by allowing multiple local, national, and foreign associations working for children to present their actions and objectives through stands and educational, fun, or cultural activities.

It also aims to:

  • Inform a wide audience about the situation of children worldwide and give a voice
to professionals specializing in childhood and adolescence
  • Allow a wide audience to benefit, over two days, in a magnificent setting,
from intelligent information in a playful and festive atmosphere.
  • Raise funds that will be allocated to support five participating associations,
chosen by a jury of children for the seriousness and effectiveness of their actions.

THE ORGANIZATION OF THE INFORMATION STANDS AT FIDE

Remember that it is not simply a forum since each association must offer an activity for free.

AN APPROACH TO DIVERSE CULTURE

The Festival must be organized around different areas to reach as many young people as possible.

The AAE 06 therefore plans:

  • On-site conferences and debates.
  • Exhibitions of works created by children.
  • Photography exhibitions. Concerts throughout the weekend.
  • Shows prepared by the children.
  • Dance initiation workshops (country, salsa, …) open to all.
  • Two major musical evenings on Saturday and Sunday evening.
  • A project for a unifying artistic creation

Children will sculpt a monumental work under the direction of Artist Rodolphe COSIMI: a polychrome fresco in bas-relief, presented as a mosaic of sculpted and painted pieces, which once assembled will offer a set of motifs expressing the power of the collective in the face of the situation of children in the world.

The work, installed and assembled on the ground, will be unveiled to the public.
SPORTS ACTIVITIES and FUN ACTIVITIES

Sports demonstrations and initiations are organized in collaboration with federations in activities particularly appreciated by children and adolescents.

The AAE 06 offers every child present on the site various outdoor activities such as inflatable structures, a quad track, water games, firefighter courses, and road safety prevention by MAIF.
