On the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Victory on May 8, 1945, Jean-Michel Drevet, Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, Eric Ciotti, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, and Colonel Jean-Paul Mochin, departmental military delegate, Commander of Arms of the Place de Nice and Menton, will celebrate the victory of the Allies and the end of the Second World War.
This day will be an opportunity to commemorate the events of the Second World War.
Program of the ceremonies:
10:00 AM: Laying of wreaths, Place-du-8-Mai.
10:15 AM: Departure of the procession to the Monument aux Morts.
10:25 AM: Arrival of the procession at the Monument aux Morts.
10:30 AM: Beginning of the ceremony. Salute to the flag by the authorities. Presentation of decorations. Reading of messages. Laying of wreaths.

The fighting was to cease on May 8 at 11:01 PM.
The news was officially communicated on May 8 at 3:00 PM.
The next day, May 9, at 12:16 AM, the general capitulation was signed in Berlin.
May 8 thus remains a symbolic date, celebrated by almost all municipalities.
