From June 24 to 26, 2011, at the port of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat
To execute it, the SIVOM of Villefranche sur Mer, a public intermunicipal cooperation establishment regrouping the six communes of the canton, associated with the team of the Intercommunal Media Library, the town of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and numerous quality providers: a network that guarantees a serious commitment at all levels of the organization, particularly in terms of literary choices and cultural programming.
In a preview, the exceptional arrival in the Mediterranean of the Schooner Etoile, ambassador of the French Navy, which has not returned to Mediterranean coasts since 2001 and will dock at the port of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat on Friday, June 24 around 10 a.m. to remain moored at the quay, on the large pier, to welcome visitors of the 6th Courants d’Ere festival for free on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26.
Like its sister ship, the Belle Poule, these two top-sail schooners are unique replicas of Paimpol cod schooners, which until 1935 fished for cod on the Icelandic banks.
Only the interior arrangements have been modified to accommodate the crew, students in training, and the installation of the machine compartment.
These schooners are training ships belonging to the Naval Academy. They have been assigned since their launch to the training of cadet officers through “cruises” in the Atlantic or the English Channel, or even the Baltic Sea or the Mediterranean.
The two ships joined the Free French Forces in Portsmouth during the Second World War. This explains the honor given to them to fly the tricolor flag adorned with the Cross of Lorraine.
As an ambassador of the French Navy, L’Etoile is frequently deployed along the coasts of France and Europe and regularly participates in major gatherings of traditional sailing ships.
Its last stay in the Mediterranean was in 2001.

On Friday, June 24, Marie-Christine Barrault will offer a tribute to Bernard Giraudeau, who passed away in the summer of 2010, at the Jardin de La Paix at 7 p.m.
The unforgettable patron of the fourth edition of the Courants d’Ere Festival, a lifelong man of the sea, Bernard Giraudeau successfully dedicated himself to writing in the last decade.
He was a member of the “Écrivains de marine” association. Among his works: Le marin à l’ancre, Les hommes à terre, Les Dames de nage, and finally Cher Amour (all published by Métailié).
A selection of excerpts from his works will be brought to life by the actress’s voice for one of the festival’s most significant moments.
The Festival will take place alongside the feast of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of the town.
This traditional celebration, organized each year at the port of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, will allow the public to attend the torchlight procession along the port, the Saint John’s fires, and the burning of the port of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat (Friday evening starting at 7 p.m. at the port).
On Saturday, fishing boats and kayaks will compete in friendly, yet fierce, races…
In just a few editions, the Courants d’Ere Festival has become the meeting place for all enthusiasts and lovers of literature, the sea, and characterful boats.
Its success is based on the quality of its program but also, and above all, on its conviviality: bringing together guests and the public to set sail together over the weekend and share a common passion, that of the sea, in all its diverse expressions.
