7th edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes marathon

Today, Sunday, November 9, the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes marathon takes place. At precisely 8 a.m., more than 14,000 people will start, making the 2014 edition the most prolific in terms of participants.

marathon_nice_cannes-11.jpg This major sporting event at the end of the year in the Alpes-Maritimes is increasingly establishing itself as an important stop in the running world.

Thanks to a sublime route taking them from the Promenade des Anglais to the Croisette, passing by the Marina Baie des Anges in Villeneuve-Loubet and Cap d’Antibes, the Maralpin marathon has gained national and even international fame, with 62 nations represented, accounting for 32% of the runners.

Among all these international competitors, the Qatari Yator Bellor (personal record of 2h08’39), the Ethiopian Shumi Hailu (2h09’06), and the Kenyan Kipserem Marius (2h09’50) are favorites. They will do their utmost to beat the record of the Kenyan Lukas Kanda, who completed the 42.195 kilometers between Nice and Cannes in 2h08min40sec.
A little further down the hierarchy, we find, as usual, the mayors of Cannes and Nice, David Lisnard and Christian Estrosi (bib number 6).

This year again, three race formats are on the program: The individual marathon, the relay marathon with 6 members, introduced in 2009, and the 2×21.1 kilometers which debuted last year.

Regardless of the format chosen, the competitors will be eager to give their all, to cross the finish line with the best possible time.
