The organizers of the Ironman have signed the “Eco-manifestation” charter initiated by Nice Côte d’Azur, for an environmentally friendly event. Thus, various actions will be implemented: selective sorting, waste reduction, encouragement to use public transport, etc. The starting signal is this Sunday, June 26, 2011, from 6:30 a.m. at the Centenary Beach.
The participants will set off for 3.8 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling, and 42.195 km of running!
This event, now a major date in the sports calendar, will see the confrontation between the five-time winner and record holder of the event, Marcel Zamora (ESP), who will have to contend with Frederik Van Lierde (BEL), who finished 2nd in 2010 and made headlines by closely following the untouchable Spaniard. In the shade of the palm trees, the duel promises to be heated…
Heather Gollnick (USA), Kim Loeffler (USA), Sylvia Felt (GER), the Niçoise Johanna Daumas (FRA), or Britta Martin (GER) arrive as strong contenders on the Côte d’Azur.
Their skills and experience might make a difference against the favorites Martina Dogana (ITA), winner of the 2008 edition, who has just won the first edition of Ironman 70.3 Pescara (Italy), or the French Alexandra Louison (FRA), winner in Nice in 2007, 3rd in 2010 and 2008.
