The AIDS epidemic remains significantly widespread globally: it is estimated that 4.8 million people were newly infected with HIV in 2003, more than in any previous year.
Approximately 37.8 million people are living with HIV. The virus has killed over 20 million people since the first cases of AIDS were identified in 1981, and nearly 3 million in the year 2003 alone.
In France, there have been 59,495 reported cases of AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic, including 2,840 cases in our very own department of Alpes-Maritimes.

Why a solidarity chain – red ribbon: The Coalition wishes to show that in the Alpes-Maritimes, we are capable of uniting against AIDS through a symbolic act such as the link:
– The link as a red ribbon originally a sign of solidarity towards HIV-positive people, a way to show concern in the fight against AIDS.
– The link as a hand extended to another as a sign of friendship, as a gesture of assistance.
That’s why the Coalition wishes to form a Red Ribbon composed of people and the essential red fabric, emblematic of the fight against AIDS.
In the presence of athletes from Nice
