The “Dreams of Travel” exhibition aims to highlight the works created by eight residents of Saint Augustin residence in collaboration with the Blouses Roses association of Nice and forty sophomore students of Henri Matisse High School in Vence.

A joint project from ages 15 to 92…
They range from 15 to 92 years old. Some are still in school, others are in facilities for the elderly. But during the 2008-2009 school year, they shared the same project: to create together an exhibition on the theme of travel.

Each willing resident of the Saint Augustin residence recorded a travel narrative, real or imagined, in a notebook.
From these notebooks, the sophomore plastic arts students at Henri Matisse High School in Vence artistically transposed these stories by creating paintings.
On their part, the residents did the same with the help of the Blouses Roses association: they drew, painted, and created works from their own memories.
On Saturday, May 16, 2009, the creations of each will be unveiled (nearly 35 works) in the presence of the students and their teachers, the residents, their families, the staff of Saint Augustin, and the Blouses Roses.

Art as a common denominator…
This project allowed the residents to escape into the past, aiding in the work of memory, expression, and communication. Writing and artistic creation helped maintain their observation, imagination, and creativity skills.

For the sophomore students of Henri Matisse High School, the educational objective was to evolve the perception of aging, and to engage in reflection on otherness.

With art as a common denominator, this project enabled all participants to establish listening, dialogue, respect, and sharing.

The Blouses Roses
The mission of the Blouses Roses association is to stimulate the sick and elderly by reigniting their desire to be active through playful, creative, or artistic activities.

In Nice, this association has 78 volunteers who work throughout the year in partnership with hospitals and elderly care facilities.
For the past five years, the Blouses Roses have been regularly involved in residences for dependent elderly managed by the Communal Center for Social Action, through creative workshops or animations.
