The French Riviera catches fire, 50 hectares go up in smoke.

Latest News

A fire spread on Monday near Roquebrune Cap-Martin, destroying 50 hectares of vegetation. The fire, fueled by strong winds, led to the partial closure of the A8 highway towards Italy.

The wind, which gusted yesterday, reached speeds of 120km/h in places. It took until around 1 p.m. for the vegetation to ignite in the Fenouil area. Controlled by late afternoon, the fire required the intervention of 260 firefighters, 4 water bombers, 2 civil security helicopters, and 80 land vehicles.

Fortunately, like the fire on the middle corniche of Saint Laurent du Var on May 1, this one resulted in no casualties and did not damage any homes. The origin of the fire, however, remains undetermined.
