Two hours were spent debating with speakers such as Michel Masseglia (UFR STAPS Teacher), Patrick Cervi (Continuous Training Advisor at Greta), and Frédéric Ilivi, Director of CEFAMS, who responded to questions from Nice Premium in order to present his association and its upcoming conference.
Nice Premium: Frédéric Ilivi, what is CEFAMS?
CEFAMS is a Law of 1901 association that offers a training alternative whose actions allow professionals, future professionals, or young people from the age of 16 to join a system under two frameworks:
The first offers block courses, à la carte or modular (diploma-based training).
The second is a work-study system for young people from 16 years old who wish to pursue careers in various sports and/or animation sectors. This pre-training allows them to gain professional experience and a recognized qualification, and to prepare for entry into apprenticeships, qualification contracts, or to meet the entry selection requirements for CREPS.
Nice Premium: Why this conference on “careers in sports and animation” at Sophia Antipolis?
The goal of this conference is to inform an audience seeking professional recognition and eager to progress in the sports and animation sector. The information covers the relevant ministries, qualification levels, required standards, career opportunities, continuous training, but also includes preparatory classes for young people from 16 years old or a meeting planned with former candidates.
Sophia Antipolis, because LE GRETA ANTIPOLIS (Grouping of National Education Establishments) is a privileged partner in these pre-training actions for young people from 16 years old. The advantages for a trainee to come and train at the International Center of Valbonne in Sophia are numerous (accommodation, premises, facilities…). Another privileged partner in employment support is the APPASCAM!
Nice Premium: What are the possible pathways in our region for a young person who wants to make sports their profession?
The most qualifying pathway, and providing training related to the field, is the professional track (continuous professional and qualifying training). University courses are by far the least suitable and offer few if any career opportunities! The age to present a diploma or compete in a contest is 18 years. Moreover, CEFAMS is the only regional organization offering preparatory classes for young people from 16 years old. It is about PREPARING them for professional life!
Nice Premium: What difference exists between working in sports and being a high-level athlete?
A high-level athlete is an athlete who practices a discipline recognized by the concerned Federation and has achieved significant national and international results. From an institutional viewpoint, there is a classification by the Ministry of Health, Sports, Youth, and Associative Life allowing recognition of these high-level athletes.
Working in sports professions means teaching, leading, and supervising in return for remuneration and with the obligation to hold a professional diploma (law of July 16, 1984, amended in 1992 and then in 2000).
Nice Premium: What is currently lacking in Azuréen associative structures to be even more effective?
The association is undoubtedly the essential structure for organizing and developing physical and/or socio-cultural sports activities. Not sufficiently valued, it must be further supported and framed by public authorities and local government bodies.
Nice Premium: Finally, what solutions do you propose?
Sport is the school of life, and with socio-cultural and artistic activities, it is a vector of integration, a lever of cultural democratization, it conveys fundamental values, it helps to combat the drifts of difficult neighborhoods, against school failure… it also contributes to better health…
Supported by municipalities, associations must assert themselves more in sports, educational policies, and in the development of high-level sports.
The State must show more coherence and increase its means with local authorities so that the association can play its role as a local actor! (training and information of volunteers, employment and training…)
