Here is the Motion submitted to the prefecture by the Alliance union:
Security is the foremost of freedoms.
The cowardly assaults on our colleagues in several regions of the national territory compel us to react and to demand a response from the State that matches the severity of the violence experienced.
Alliance Police Nationale, the majority union, wishes to draw the attention of public authorities to the specific difficulties faced by all those who combat various forms of insecurity daily by filing a motion addressed to the nation’s elected officials.
We insist that measures be taken very quickly to ensure the safety of personnel involved in the fight against delinquencies and crime.
We demand that the state organizes a “Security Grenelle” (police, justice, national education, elected officials, etc.) as soon as possible.
We also wish for legislative measures to be taken to create “mandatory minimum sentences” to provide judges with real tools to severely punish the assailants of police officers, gendarmes, or firefighters. These minimum sentences could also apply to assailants of so-called vulnerable individuals.
We also demand that a clear and precise redefinition of security missions be initiated and that a structural reform be set in motion.
By redirecting available personnel toward genuine missions of protecting people and property, we can improve the public service owed to the citizen. This means abandoning certain undue tasks (escort duties, presenting detained individuals for hospital care, etc.) that seriously impair the operational capacity of the National Police services.
We demand that the state ensures the protection of its agents: legal protection as well as physical protection by quickly providing light protective equipment to the engaged personnel.
Then we will be able to work everywhere
in respect and safety.
