The influence of the International Academy of Nice extends beyond French borders, yet it remains limited in the region.
This is why, for 51 years, the Academy’s festival has been organized, always innovative and appealing to a “different audience.” Florence Paris enjoys seeing these concerts as opportunities to “step out of the big halls, to play in a different way.” In the enchanting setting of the Cloister of the Cimiez Monastery, for example, where numerous performances have taken place. Several villages have also hosted concerts “outdoors and free of charge,” in Valdeblore, Gilette, and Roquebrune Cap Martin. But what about the competition from other summer music events, especially jazz? “The audience never tires, because we offer many types of concerts: carte blanche for musicians, ensembles, soloists, chamber music… and, of course, music classes.”
“A Big Edition”
This last point is essential for Florence Paris. “The festival brings about 850 students from around the world to Nice each year. 50 nationalities are represented, and we invite great classical music pedagogues for all instruments.” Renowned professors, such as Jacques Taddei, the festival’s artistic director this year. They transition from the role of teacher to soloist for concerts that mix students and professionals. “It’s a special moment for future musicians. It allows them to meet their seniors, to evaluate themselves among peers, and to perform in an auditorium.” A successful challenge this year for Florence Paris, “with 40 concerts, over 100 soloists, a large audience in the hinterlands… In short, a big edition.” And to register, nothing could be simpler. Head to the Academy’s website, which then reviews applications and checks the level of the candidates.
