Emmanuel Fricero presents to us “The Godfather’s Last Lesson”

Latest News

Nice-Premium: To start, here are four customary questions:
Name: FRICERO
First Name: Emmanuel
Age: 26 years
Profession: Director, screenwriter, producer

Now, let’s talk about serious matters:

N-P: Witnesses claim to have seen you lurking at the scenes of some short film shoots. Do you confirm this information?
E.F.: I confess. I am guiltyโ€ฆ and a repeat offender! I have been making and participating in short films for a very long time. My first cinematic thrills began at the age of eight with my parentsโ€™ cameraโ€ฆ and I have never stopped since! At that time, I used to film little movies with my family and friends playing the main and secondary roles. It was at that age that I knew what I really wanted to do: direct.

N-P: What is the reason for your presence at these locations?
E.F.: Simply passion, pleasure, and love for cinema. Also, a desire to tell stories, to convey a message to the audience, and to fulfill my childhood dream.

N-P: How long have you been involved in this field?
E.F.: Officially since 2004, the year I graduated from the Nice School of Audiovisual Production (ESRA) and started working for television and cinema, on documentary, music video, and feature film shoots.

N-P: What appeals to you about it?
E.F.: The glitz and glamour aspect doesnโ€™t really attract me. What truly interests me is being able to make films and tell stories to provide pleasure and emotions to the audience. My only claim is to entertain them and take them on a journey to another world for the duration of a film.

N-P: You probably know why we summoned you?
E.F.: Yes, I have an ideaโ€ฆ It’s probably about my latest short film produced by our association Fricero Films, for which we are organizing a premiere on August 30th.

N-P: We have learned from a reliable source that you are closely involved in what is said to be โ€œThe Godfatherโ€™s Last Lessonโ€?
E.F.: Thatโ€™s correct, you are indeed well-informedโ€ฆ I am the director, the co-screenwriter, and one of the producers of the film. We started the project with Fricero Films almost three years ago. We wrote the first lines of the script in September 2005, and this long adventure is nearing its end.

N-P: How did you go about making this short film?
E.F.: We first developed files seeking funding. We had contacts following one of my previous short films, Henchmen, but nothing panned out. So, we decided to finance it ourselves. We are naturally inclined to never give up. The Godfatherโ€™s Last Lesson is the most ambitious and accomplished film of my young filmmaking life. From the start, I envisioned its production as that of a feature film.

N-P: Why did you delve into this world of Spanish mafias?
E.F.: The โ€œgangsterโ€ world is a topic that particularly interests me from a young age. I am fascinated by the โ€œfamilyโ€ aspect intertwined with fear and betrayal, so I looked into it more closely. We made it into fiction with Hispanic main characters, as I am of Spanish descent myself.

N-P: Now that youโ€™ve admitted to being the mastermind behind this short film, are you ready to reveal the names of your accomplices?
E.F.: I am ready, but Iโ€™m not sure I can name them all, I apologize in advance, but I thank them all. My accomplices are the main actors Daniel Lentini (also co-screenwriter), Rรฉgis Braun, Yoan Vidal, Patrick Stuart (also Head of Special Effects on set), Anne Ghenassia, Maria Soriano, and Raphaรซl Boyes. There are also producers Alexandre Fricero, Julien Fricero, Jรฉrรฉmy Gonzales, Olivier Landry (also Director of Photography), and Loรฏc Landrau (also co-screenwriter). The last ones I would denounce are Franck Ancelin, the composer of the original music, Jรฉrรดme Mettling who took charge of editing and digital special effects, Nicolas Jeannin for sound post-production, and stunt and fight coordinator Jean-Franรงois Marras.

N-P: Our custody term is ending, as you have been cooperative, we are releasing you but before leaving, please answer the following two questions:

Now that you have succeeded in bringing โ€œThe Godfatherโ€™s Last Lessonโ€ to life, what do you plan to do?
E.F.: We have a lot of projects, but we first intend to maximize the filmโ€™s exposure, distribute it, send it to festivals, television networks, producers, and distributorsโ€ฆ. Our goal today is to showcase our work hoping it will be appreciated and to gain recognition from professionals to continue our advancement in the 7th Art and hopefully, why not, move on to a first feature film.

N-P: What is your favorite film and actor?
E.F.: Itโ€™s a very difficult question because there are so many films and actors I really admire in completely different styles. But I will still mention one of my favorite films โ€œCarlitoโ€™s Wayโ€ by Brian De Palma with Al Pacino and Sean Penn. I will say no more in the absence of my lawyer. Thank you.
