For the new year, Jean-Christophe Maillot and William Forsythe will each present a creation. The Artistic Director of the Monegasque Company signs “Altro Canto,” a character that manages to distill a penetrating mystery with apnea choreography, flying arms, pas de deux that reinvent the embrace under a candlelit sky hovering above the dancers like those in the great dining hall in the films of the Harry Potter saga. The guest choreographer, meanwhile, will offer “Artifact suite” performed by thirty-five dancers. It is a work with strong images where the disruption of theatrical machinery and optical illusion games are also pushed to the extreme.

Otello
Otello, Verdi’s lyrical drama based on William Shakespeare, composed in 1887 at the Scala in Milan, is a drama of jealousy in four acts, the result of a long six-year maturation. Through this work, the composer completely renews the lyrical art: more flexible music replaces bel canto and exalts the beauty of the text. Otello is a diverse and balanced work where the Monte-Carlo choirs, under the direction of Kirstan Missirkov, and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Daniele Callegari, merge.
This opera, directed by John Cox, is performed by Clifton Forbis (Otello), Zeljko Lucic (Iago), Michele Capalbo (Desdemona), Nadine Weismann (Emilia), Bülent Külekci (Cassio), Stanislav Shvets (Lodovico), Fulvio Oberto (Roderigo), and Federico Sacchi (Montano).
