Last Friday, Christian Estrosi awarded the insignia of the National Order of Merit to Boubakeur Bekri, representative of the Regional Council of the Muslim Faith in the Alpes-Maritimes.
This ceremony provided the opportunity for surreal remarks reported by the local press. Christian Estrosi thus reaffirmed, once more, his support for the construction of a grand mosque by declaring that “Muslims must pray in dignified and appropriate places of worship,” before playing tough by stating that “it is unacceptable to turn the street into a place of worship.”
Yet, last Thursday, we revealed (with pictures to back it up!) that in Nice, right in the city center, the rue de Suisse was regularly blocked by Muslims setting up in the street to pray. Thanks to contacts established with local residents who provided their testimony, we are now in a position to affirm that Messrs. Estrosi and Kandel have been alerted to this situation for months. Some residents have even been received at the town hall. However, Christian Estrosi, who claims to want to combat these practices, has done nothing to put an end to this unacceptable and perfectly illegal situation.
For his part, Boubakeur Bekri affirmed “the importance of equipping the fifth-largest city in France with a place of worship.” Mr. Bekri mocks his audience because he knows very well that several Muslim “places of worship” already exist in Nice, whether prayer rooms or mosques. We can notably mention the most significant one: the Ar-Rahma Mosque in Ariane, with its 800 places!
In reality, what Boubakeur Bekri is demanding, what the Muslim authorities are demanding, is a large mosque, a symbol of the permanent and definitive implantation of Islam in our city. Perhaps they also dream of a mosque with a beautiful 25-meter high minaret like the one the mayor of Marseille (UMP’s Gaudin) granted them?
When Christian Estrosi claims to fight against Muslim prayers in the streets while allowing them to take place in his streets for months, when Boubakeur Bekri demands a place of worship when several already exist; they deliberately choose falsehood.
In confronting them, we affirm the truth of the facts. When will this truth be relayed in our media?
