As early as September 2008, Christian Estrosi, Deputy, Mayor of Nice, President of Nice Côte d’Azur, and Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, wanted to initiate a discussion to improve traffic between the City of Nice and the eastern part of the department. Feasibility studies for a tunnel passing under Mont-Boron and connecting the towns of Nice to Villefranche-sur-Mer were then launched.
This tunnel, with a length of 2,850 meters, would start from Pont Michel in Nice and end in the Malariba valley, on the lower coastal road to the East of Villefranche-sur-Mer, above the Marinières beach.
