Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival

Latest News

With a day dedicated to creation on Sunday, where music, dance, visual arts, clowns, and video will all mingle. Slip from room to room for an unexpected day in today’s creative world. The festival also continues its invitations to the most prestigious European ensembles by inviting this year the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg, conducted by the great Michael Gielen. This Saturday, a violin night dedicated to virtuosity will bring together 5 of the most brilliant violinists of the new generation for an exceptional evening where the audience will have to choose between 2 concerts.

arts_monaco-2.jpg Each year the Printemps des Arts invites the great European orchestras to Monaco. After the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, here is one of the great German orchestras conducted by one of the most internationally renowned conductors, Michael Gielen.

On the program, MAHLER (ten lieder for voice and orchestra on texts drawn from the collection of “popular” German songs) and SCHOENBERG: during a night-time walk, a woman confesses to her husband that she is expecting a childโ€ฆ from another man. Thus begins the famous Transfigured Night by the Viennese composer Arnold Schoenberg. This romantic and passionate work describes all the episodes of their impassioned discussion before dawn finally brings the husband’s resigned and loving forgiveness.
Michael Gielen, one of the last exponents of the high Viennese tradition (Brahms, Mahler, Schoenberg), is an absolutely unique conductor who knows how to imbue the music he conducts with both depth and lyricism.

VIOLIN NIGHT
Five violinists, two concerts to choose from for an exceptional evening!

Sergej Krylov, Tedi Papavrami, Elsa Grether, Julian Rachlin, Midori Seiler: here is the New Wave of violin gathered for a somewhat mad marathon presenting the main masterpieces written for this instrument. A long night dedicated to virtuosity, in a way. Because the violin can sing like a voice, move like a dancer, escape like a poetโ€ฆ For everyone, Johann Sebastian Bach is of course the reference, for no one before him had dared entrust this melodic instrument with such a richly constructed discourse like a cathedral. He showed that the violin could be alone like an organ, a harpsichord, or even an orchestra.
