Its founder was Giuseppe, a master of art and goldsmithing at a time when Naples was the capital of the Bourbons. Then, after the unification of Italy, the Ventrella family became suppliers to the Royal House of Savoy.
More recently, in the 1930s, Donato, Asad’s grandfather—who combined artistic talent with the qualities of a brilliant entrepreneur—enabled his family to enter the club of the world’s most prestigious goldsmiths.
In this context, the artistic figure of Roberto (Donato’s son and Asad’s father) emerged as a brilliant jewelry creator and later as a watch designer for the most renowned brands (Corum, Tag Heuer, and Dior).
In the 1980s, he left the family business and turned his interest towards creating contemporary jewelry and art objects.
It was then that Asad founded AVD (Asad Ventrella Design) in 1999, which produces, and Contemporastudio, which sells jewelry and sculptures. His expertise is expressed in tradition but with a new vision of the product.
His activities take place in the Naples workshop and in the showrooms in Naples, Ischia, and, since July of this year, in Nice (rue Droite).
“The decision to relocate with my family and part of my professional activities to Nice stems from the socio-political climate in Italy at this time. Particularly in Naples, which, for various reasons, remains even more vulnerable to difficulties.
We, the Ventrella family, are citizens of the world. My father went to work and live in Lugano (Switzerland), a Neapolitan artist in Switzerland…!!!
Therefore, I think an experience abroad can be beneficial, and Nice seemed to my wife and me like an ideal location. There is the sea and the sun, even though the panorama of the Gulf of Naples is unmatched in the world!
Moreover, the international airport is very well connected with Italy, allowing me to go there regularly for my business.
So we have become adopted people of Nice and are proud to be so.”
