2010-2011 Edition: Film-Conferences on “Knowledge of the World”

Latest News

On February 4, 1936, Commander Charcot and Paul-ร‰mile Victor presented Parisians with autochromes of Greenland and sound recordings of the Inuits at the Salle Pleyel. In 1945, the greatest explorers of the 20th century showcased the “Knowledge of the World” at the podium. Some names? Commander Cousteau, Haroun Tazieff, Maurice Herzog, and many others.

Since then, a new generation of men and women has set out to meet the peoples of the world. They have created very famous films, which are part of the French geographical documentary heritage. Every year, nearly 6,000 Cine-Conferences are scheduled in 450 French cities. This year, the film “Ireland, Shadows and Lights” by Luc Giard will be screened twice at the Cinรฉma Variรฉtรฉs in Nice.

It invites you to discover the Irish and their passions, from Burren to Connemara and through Donegal. It’s a series of living pictures that serve as the backdrop to the traditions and history of this island of sublime beauty.
Luc Giard weaves his camera between “shadows and lights,” where man and his love for the country remain essential. Come and share the emotions of a vibrant Ireland.

“Knowledge of the World” allows both the elderly and the young to discover the world of today. A discovery made possible by unique and authentic testimonies from free and independent filmmakers. Many more screenings are still planned in Nice.
