2010 Cantonal Elections: Statement from Debout la République

“Six jewelry store robberies in two months in the Alpes-Maritimes, including 4 in Nice! 106 attacks since the beginning of the year in the department, that’s 70% more than last year. The Mayor of Nice and the President of the General Council, who have been in the spotlight lecturing all of France on security matters, have been more discreet lately, and it’s understandable. Especially since we must add to this, the cars set on fire (Nice and Menton), and offenses against people.

Security is a major issue and it’s not about escalating or claiming that we can solve the problem with a magic wand, but we see that it’s not being resolved through media stir and grandstanding either.

Debout La République, once again, asserts that the reduction in the number of gendarmes and police officers (10,000 fewer in 3 years across France) and the policy of automatic sentence reductions are not meant to improve security conditions nationally or departmentally.

It is high time to seriously tackle the problems of the French people, and that’s what the candidates of Debout La République will propose during the upcoming cantonal elections in Nice.”
