At the Chapel Sancta Maria de Olivo in Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Hélène METLOV, holder of an aggregation in Russian, has held positions in Blois, then at the University of Lyon II and Nice. She then spent 21 years in Moscow (1974-1995) as a language attaché at Lomonossov State University, M. Thorez Institute, and later a teacher of Russian, Latin, and music at the French Lycée near the French Embassy. Born into a family of professional musicians, she received excellent musical training, which enabled her to create and direct a cappella choirs in Russian and French from 1958 onward (folk songs, sacred music, opera excerpts, etc.). In Russia, she embarked on a parallel “career” as a singer to promote French music, while continuing to perform Russian music, particularly in duo. She participated for 3 years in the professional ensemble “Voskressenie” and initiated musical exchanges with France.
Since her retirement, she has dedicated herself full-time to her associations: the House of Russia (among others)… she is involved in everything, and almost nothing “culturally interesting” between France and Russia in Nice escapes her.
In Beaulieu-sur-Mer, our partnership with Hélène METLOV is already longstanding; we have hosted her vocal ensemble “Metelnizza” and, thanks to her, have invited several times the “Moscow National Puppet Theater” to the great delight of schoolchildren, and organized beautiful exhibitions, notably the latest on the SOLOVKI Islands, as part of the Franco-Russian cross-year.
