In the presence of Jean-Marc Giaume, Municipal Councillor delegated to Historical Heritage, Niçoise Language and Culture
Monday, December 20, 2010, at 4 PM, Place Rossetti – Nice
The crèche of Old Nice is part of the traditional Calèna festivities, the Niçoise Christmas.
“Le Presèpi Nissart,” a crèche in the style of pastorals, is a popular satire. The origin of “Presèpi” dates back to around the 1830s. Played with puppets carved from wood, it stages picturesque characters from Old Nice who speak in street language. For the second consecutive year, after a long absence, the “Mariota” will be brought back into the spotlight.
A series of unique activities, set up by Jean-Marc Giaume and his Historical Heritage, Niçoise Language and Culture delegation, will also take over Place Rossetti, in the heart of Old Nice, from December 20 to 26.
The public will be able to enjoy songs and dances from the Ciamada Nissarda, the Escarenois Orchestra, La Parpaïola, the La Valdeblourenco choir, the Nikaïachor choir, Lou Rodou Nissart.
Children will enjoy story readings and events and workshops around the farm.
