On Tuesday, May 10 and Wednesday, May 11, at 7:30 PM, the Grasse theater presents “Oliver Twist” by Joséphine Baïz. This dance show, suitable for the whole family, will be performed by the Grenade group.
Josette Baïz and her Grenade Group recreate the journey of Oliver Twist, the young hero of the famous novel by Charles Dickens whose life was marked by small joys, dramas, and great suffering. A child born on the street and raised in a militaristic orphanage with gray, soulless walls, dressed in a gray smock, his life is only violence and lack of love. An initiatory journey that, for the choreographer, “magnificently reveals all the bruises of the soul that persist in each of us”…
From this 19th-century fable, with its universal reach, Josette Baïz has created a resolutely contemporary show in its choreographic writing, as well as in its sensitive approach and formal inventiveness. Thanks to the enthusiasm of its 16 young dancers, aged 8 to 13, Oliver Twist is an absolute success that touches the hearts of all young people today.
