Municipal Elections 2014 in Nice, it’s time for the left…

Latest News

It was read in both free and paid newspapers, Eric Ciotti declared loudly and clearly that a single list will represent the right in the upcoming Nice municipal elections with Christian Estrosi at its head. This is a fact, even though there are whispers of a possible candidacy from Olivier Bettati, the deputy mayor, metropolitan and general councilor, who, during the competition for the election of the UMP president, deliberately sided with Jean-Franรงois Copรฉ by teaming up with Michรจle Tabarot and therefore is probably not in good graces with the Estrosi-Ciotti duo, which holds a strong majority in Nice and the department.

ps-nice-3.jpg In that case, it will certainly be necessary to wait for the conclusion of the internal situation within the UMP to know the position of each on the chessboard according to the power relations that will be established at the end of the year after the final result.

And, what can be said of Jean Auguste Icart and Marouane Bouloudhnine, also struck by the lightning of exclusion from the municipal or metropolitan majority for a vote infidelity offense? Will they withdraw from politics in good order, or will they want to succeed (or at least attempt) a comeback?

And finally, what about the opposition list which, for once, will present itself under the colors of the “majority” presidential? Ready, set, go!

Even if other “satellites” still try to gravitate around the Socialist Party endorsement for the upcoming municipal elections of the capital of the French Riviera, it is well known that the crown will be contested by two local forces: Patrick Allemand and Marc Concas. A duel that will certainly be spicy and that will, in fact, leave uncertainty in the adversary camp, which more or less fears the candidacy of one or the other.

They were friends, but that was before, as the saying goes. And today, even if they are not (yet) enemies, they will almost certainly be candidates for the same endorsement, thus direct adversaries. Itโ€™s amazing how a simple legislative candidacy can lead to such a complicated situation. In short, these are two ways of practicing socialism that will clash to earn the right to run for a mandate that will still need to be snatched from the aforementioned by the President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes.

Allemand-Concas, itโ€™s a bit like a Nice-Bastia in football or a Nice-Bรฉziers in the good old days of Nice rugby. And, as usual, the “comrades” will have to make a choice, as the late Michel Colucci would say. And there, things get complicated because one knows the pressures from the political apparatus, especially now that it is in power. Nonetheless, the sympathy and often even the esteem given to the General Councilor elected in the first canton of the city of Nice, who had won the high-stake election against a certainโ€ฆ Eric Ciotti, remains strong.

And on the other side, Patrick Allemand. The First Vice President of the PACA Regional Council and direct adversary of the Mayor of Nice through his group “Changer dโ€™รจre” considers himself, more or less justifiably, as the natural candidate for this upcoming endorsement. Yes, but the path will probably be more winding than expected for Patrick Allemand, who will have to deal with all the Nician and Cรดte d’Azur currents of the left to stay in the favorite position. Patrick Mottard, Jean-Christophe Picard, Robert Injeyโ€ฆ So many political leaders that will need to be convinced, either of the quality of his candidacyโ€ฆ Or the mediocrity of the other!

The new year 2013 thus presents itself as a real launching pad for these two candidacies, which should certainly not take long to unveil even if, for the more perceptive or the most informed, they have already been hinted at during certain media statements.

So who will draw first between one of the leading figures of the Nice bar and the head of the Azur socialist party?
