Until May 30, the Fnac Forum in Monaco is hosting a photography exhibition by Abbas titled “Ali the Fight.”
October 30, 1974, Kinshasa. Muhammad Ali faces George Foreman for the heavyweight world championship title. This “fight of the century” is much more than just a boxing match; it is the culmination and consecration of the legend of Muhammad Ali.
Abbas, a renowned photographer and iconic figure of the Magnum agency, has been capturing societies in conflict and religious issues worldwide with a sharp, committed, and poetic eye for nearly forty years. From the artist’s encounter with this mythical moment emerged an exceptional and until now unpublished photographic series. The seasoned photojournalist was able to capture the full magnitude of the encounter between the two champions. The incredibly charismatic figure of Ali, the cultural clash between the Western world and Africa, and the incredible excitement surrounding the organization of the fight.
