ligue_contre_cancer.jpg Scientific and medical research is at the origin of all advances that allow and will allow to conquer cancer. In 2011, the League invested a total amount of 38.6 million euros in cancer research.

The League makes the fight against cancer a societal issue bringing together the largest possible number of health, economic, social, and political actors. Together, they fight in three complementary directions: researching to cure, preventing to protect, supporting to help.

In the next five years, two million people will be confronted with cancer. This statistic alone is enough to understand the public health issue posed by cancer in France. To tackle such a complex pathology, reduce its mortality and incidence while also improving patients’ quality of life and facilitating the social reintegration of former patients, research must necessarily be multidisciplinary and transversal.

The research support policy led by the League covers the entire continuum of cancer research: fundamental studies on the intimate mechanisms of the disease, essential clinical studies for the development of new treatments, epidemiological research projects and human and social sciences research crucial for prevention and improving the non-directly medical management of the disease.

2 days to review the advances due to the French National League Against Cancer’s research support programs, 17 researchers, established team leaders, and young scientists benefiting from the League’s support for the funding of their work in the fields of fundamental research and genomics, clinical research, epidemiological research, human and social sciences research.

Seventeen researchers, established team leaders, and young scientists will report on their work in the fields of fundamental research and genomics, clinical research, epidemiological research, human, and social sciences research.
